Description
We are currently looking to fill an approximate 12 week position at the University of Windsor. Position would start ASAP and qualified candidates must have WSIB working experience.
Job Description and Duties:
- In collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Manager, administer WSIB claims in accordance with legislative requirements, submitting accurate and timely forms and documents to the WSIB.
- Liaise with employees, supervisors, managers, departments, unions, health care professionals, and the WSIB regarding claims management and accommodations
- Review WSIB claims and assist in the preparation for WSIB appeals as necessary.
- Coordinate the return to work program for applicable WSIB claimants and other work-related accommodations to ensure a timely and safe return to work. Facilitate appropriate accommodation for employees returning to work and/or those requiring other health and safety-related accommodations. Consult and collaborate with the Workplace Accommodations Specialist and other relevant parties (unions, OHREA, Office of the Provost, Academic Labour Relations, etc.) and develop accommodation plans where applicable. Monitor, review, and revise plans where necessary, and ensure proper record-keeping. Keep relevant parties informed as to the status of the plans and provide guidance as needed.
- For students working in unpaid practicums under the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) program, consult with appropriate placement coordinators, placement employers, and other campus partners to obtain required documentation and follow-up on accidents/incidents. Administer WSIB claims and other insurance claims as applicable and in accordance with MCU guidelines. Ensure workplace accommodations are established for students, as required. Collect the required data and reporting information from campus partners and submit to the MCU.
- Collaborate with the Occupational Health and Safety Manager, Labour Relations, supervisors, unions, and employees to ensure appropriate safety measures are implemented during the course of investigations of complaints brought forward.
- Review WSIB firm reports, summaries and statements for accuracy, forecast future costs, and make recommendations to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager to minimize claim costs. Obtain information from the WSIB as required (i.e. Firm Statements, Clearance Certificates, etc.).
- In consultation with Occupational Health and Safety Manager, participate in WSIB programs and initiatives as required (e.g. safety groups, rebate programs/initiatives, etc.).
- Review and participate in education sessions regarding WSIB communications and legislation to remain current on relevant legislation and accommodation issues. Assist with research and development of University programs as a result of new information.
- Promote and communicate University procedures and information regarding employee health, safety, and wellness (e.g. Ergonomics program, Employee Mental Health, etc.).
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding WSIB claims medical information and accommodations, respecting the dignity and privacy of the individual and their right to confidentiality.
